You would think, 3 years on, a digital industry would have evolved and understood the fundamental reason why change is necessary. But it hasn't. You will find that 'responsive design' still sits in the mind of designers and is still an afterthought, even though it is a website for mobile. Another clue that we are not quite there is the amount of companies talking about mobile templates in the same breath as 'responsive design' solutions. But really, when you think about IE6, Table layouts, Flash & 'the fold' should we be surprised?
Change is something that takes time in an industry forged on attaining stability and doing everything within its power to maintain it. And although 'Responsive design' is still regarded as ‘the new kid on the block’, it means those foundations need to be reworked. And this is where the industry is struggling, as though living double lives and making that life very difficult.
RWD is more than just making your website work on any device, its about a change in the way we interact with our clients and the end user. It is a shift in process much like how the agile redefined project workflow and client involvement, in fact agile methodology is the reason that Designers and Developers now interact together better.
